DG Fossil Preparation High Speed Micro Grinder

The DG. Grinder is one of our specialist Fossil Preparation Tools. Grinding within fossil preparation is often overlooked and rarely promoted elsewhere, especially to and by entry level preparers, Experienced preparators are typically well aware of the benefits of grinding, and grinders quickly become a very welcome addition to an advancing preparers arsenal and are invaluable for some FP techniques.

The DG is a highly modified here from a tool that is specifiically used in the dental and surgical fields It is a high speed grinder that revolves at an astonishingl 350,000. revs per minute producing an almost virtual shockless matrix removal,

My modifications include fitting a switch at the pen and complex internal machining to enable them to be used from & with standard air fittings. The dental focused water spray facility is removed and replaced with a front air flow to keep the grinder head clear when in use.

A surprisingly effective tool especially under magnification. They have proved, that with the fossil focused modifications, to be extremely reliable in use. and very easy to maintain.

Cynodont sp . Permian. Karoo Basin South Africa.. 4 inches long. Prepared by Ken Mannion circa 2018..This 3D Rare mammal like reptile skull was collected preserved in a large hard nodule. This nodule was initially roughed out with pens revealing an undistorted delicate skull, the bone surfaces encased within a thick layer of the pyrite like, mineral haematite. Practically impossible to pen (or air-abrade) further without damage, the DG grinder was used at this final stage for its unique abilty to swiftly and shock free grind the remaining hard iron like matrix close to the bone. Simply put.no other technique could have achieved this superb result.
